Small Differences In Attitudes about Health Insurance
ABC News Poll
By large numbers, Americans were satisfied with quality of their health insurance in November, 1995. ABC News surveyed slightly more than 1,000 American adults.
Conclusions included:
Plan Ratings: The overwhelming number of people with private health insurance were satisfied with the quality of the care they were receiving. People in HMOs were about as likely to recommend their plan to others as people in the other plan types.
Cost: HMO enrollees appeared slightly more likely to be happy with the cost of their plan. Of those surveyed who were in HMOs, 81% said they were satisfied with the cost. In traditional fee for service plans, 67% said they were satisfied. A full third of this latter group were dissatisfied.
Access to Sophisticated Treatment: It appeared HMO enrollees were a little less likely to be satisfied with their ability to get the latest treatments, to see top medical specialists and to get a doctor's appointment. Of all people with health coverage, 89% were satisfied with their ability to get a doctor's appointment when they wanted one. However, 82% of HMO enrollees answered this way.
