Campus Television

Here are links to the work being produced at universities.

A person considering a television career can find here the range of educational possibilities. It is vital that a person leave college with prepared, professional skills. There is virutally no opportunity for formal on-the-job training in most professional television stations.

Ashland University - Communication Arts students learn critical thinking and written skills within a liberal arts tradition. A range of laboratory experiences in the campus radio station, television station, video production facility and multimedia laboratory are open to qualified students.

Arizona State University - This school has a large communication arts department at the Cronkite School of Journalism. Newswatch is a regular production.

Ball State  ---  This campus features extensive television and radio opportunities, including WCRH-TV.

Brigham Young University - BYU NewsNet. Student news site for Brigham Young University 's KBYU News, a twice-daily news broadcast. Site is a joint effort by its print and online journalism counterparts. 

California University of Pennsylvania ---  This academic program produces programming of regional community interest, while giving students valuable "hands-on" educational experiences in television production.  CUTV is seen in over 60,000 homes through various cable systems in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Colorado State University - Joint site of all student media efforts at the University, including CTV, Campus Television, producing two newscasts each week among other prog ramming.

Elon School of Communications --- The Communications major at this North Carolina school has separate sequences in broadcast communications, corporate communications, film studies, and TV production.

Emerson Channel --- The Emerson Channel serves as a showcase for the creative work of Emerson students, faculty, alumni, and staff.  In Boston, Emerson students produce multiple news, sports and entertainment shows for on-air cablecast.

Ithaca College Television   ---   ICTV is a student-operated television production organization serving 26,000 cable households with a variety of community-oriented programming. It is operated by and housed in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Kent State TV-2 --- Kent State University provides a broadcast news program in Northeast Ohio.  The student broadcast operation produces 30-minute newscasts every weeknight at 5:30 and 6:30. An innovative producing course works in cooperation with WKYC-TV, Cleveland.

Lenoir-Rhyne --- This North Carolina college offers a communication major with an emphasis on broadcast television, video production, journalism and corporate communications.  Opportunities include  campus radio station WLRC, and  a monthly Web show known as Error 505  broadcast and video production majors.

Lyndon State College --- Lyndon State College 's News 7 is broadcast live five days a week during the academic year.

Marquette --- MUTV is a student-run, cable television station which serves the campus community. The station is a co-curricular activity in the College of Communication. Student volunteers from all fields of study find experience in production, sales, promotion, management, news, sports, entertainment, and virtually every aspect of television.

Northwestern University - The Northwestern News Report covers news, issues and events of interest to the Northwestern University and Evanston communities.

Ohio University - A live half-hour nightly newscast focuses on news from the campus and southern Ohio.

Oregon State University --- KBVR-TV is a student-run station. The station has been on air since 1965. The managers say previous experience is not necessary, and it doesn't matter what your major is.

Oswego State University --- Every week WTOP-TV produces 9 newscasts, 17 original student-produced programs, and coverage of live sports and campus events.

Pacific Lutheran University - KCNS-TV provides a means for students to experience television production, regardless of skill level. Students have many opportunities, ranging from planning programs to working behind and in front of the camera.

Rider University --- A student-run TV studio that produces world news, politics and sports shows.

Rowan Television Network   --- Rowan University's student run television station airs programming 24 hours a day. RTN tapes studio shows weekly (including: a late-night variety show,  is a talk show, and a student films program.)  A news show airs live at 7 on Thursdays.

Syracuse University - University Union Television produces newscasts cover that campus news as well as featuring stories from around the world.

St. Cloud State University - UTVS features live half-hour newscasts during the school year. It produces extensive live hockey coverage, a sports wrap show, movie review program, a game show, and a live band broadcast. UTVS is also live from KVSC radio's extraordinary 50-hour trivia contest.

University of Arizona - TV3 is a student-run television station, broadcasting 24-7 to more than 5,000 students.

UGA's Grady School of Journalism --- Alumni include: Deborah Norville of Inside Edition, Julie Moran formerly of Entertainment Tonight, Deborah Roberts of ABC News, the late John Holliman of CNN, Amy Robach of MSNBC, Elaine Reyes of WXIA-TV.

University of Florida --- WUFT-TV News is produced, anchored, edited, and reported by students in the Telecommunications major.  The show is broadcast on north-central Florida's PBS station.

University of Hartford - STN is the Student Television Network. STN was formed over 10 years ago and has been news oriented, STN Channel 2 News. STN is also becoming more of a true network, with other shows and programming already on the air.

University of Houston --- The Student Video Network (SVN/Channel 6) provides students the opportunity to develop movies, television shows, commercials, and special features for the small screen, experiencing the entire process from inception to air.

University of Kansas - KUJH-TV provides wide-ranging college television station opportunities. 

University of Maryland -   Maryland Newsline brings UMTV viewers the latest news and public affairs from Washington, Annapolis, and the region. Reporters working from the Annapolis bureau keep a close eye on state politics and the lawmakers who help shape Maryland's future. Those assigned to Capitol Hill monitor national newsmakers.

University of Michigan - University of Michigan. WOLV-TV's newscast is produced, anchored and reported by students.

University of Missouri -  The station is a full-power NBC Affiliate operating as an independent commercial property. KOMU-TV8 is the only university-owned commercial television station in the United States utilizing its newsroom as a working lab for students.

University of Montana- Students work on a variety of radio and television programs that air across the state of Montana. From 90-second newsbriefs to an hour-long documentary, Broadcast News and Production students get the chance to research, report, produce, write, photograph, edit, anchor and direct.

University of North Carolina - Here is streaming video and text of stories featured on "Carolina Week", a weekly newsmagazine produced by students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

University of Southern California Annenberg TV News - Student produced newscast from the University of Southern California . Global, national, hometown, and campus events are examined in the live thirty-minute nightly newscasts.

University of California San Diego - --UCSD-TV provides informational, educational and enrichment programming. UCSD-TV is an independent, non-commercial, broadcast station. Its transmitter is in La Jolla.

University of Texas in Austin - KVR-TV, Texas Student Television, is a student-run, low-power television station in the country. Working with a broadcast adviser, the student staff makes all decisions about programming, use of equipment, marketing outside production projects and the direction of the station.

Washington State University-Cable 8 News offers experience for students at the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication.
